Information checked: October 30, 2026. Prices and departure schedules are organizer-published, and availability can change. Official event website.

The main decision is which experience to book. Boats put you on the river for the light displays. The new Pecos Express gives you a train ride with a published 30-minute duration. Both depart on schedules, and neither is improved by arriving just as the doors are closing.

When Is Christmas on the Pecos in 2026?

The published season is November 27 through December 31, 2026, with no event on Christmas Eve, December 24. The event website lists the dates, and the boat and train pages give their own departure details.

There’s one catch worth knowing before you choose a night: not every experience has exactly the same operating dates. The private Pecos Diamond boat has a more limited calendar than the regular boats. Check the date and departure in the booking system before making other plans.

The organizer also says weekend departures and weekdays late in December tend to be especially popular. That is a reason to book ahead, although it doesn’t tell us which seats remain available today. Organizer FAQ.

Boat Tours vs. Pecos Express: Which Experience Should You Choose?

The two experiences share the holiday setting, but the timetable and format differ. Neither needs an invented winner’s trophy.

Compare the published 2026 experiences
Experience Standard adult price Ride duration Official details
Rudolph / Noelle boats $20 Not confirmed on the reviewed event pages River-based light tours. Published departures across the two public-boat schedules span 6:00–9:30 p.m. Boat schedules
Pecos Express train $15 30 minutes Scheduled departures at 6:00, 6:45, 7:30, 8:15, 9:00 and 9:45 p.m. Train schedule
Pecos Diamond $30 per person Not confirmed Private-tour option with a limited date schedule. Pecos Diamond details

What the departure times mean for planning

Public boat departure schedules fill time slots across the evening, but each boat follows its own published timetable. The Pecos Express runs at the six listed train times. Choose your exact departure first, then plan dinner or another stop around it. A 9:00 p.m. train ticket and a 9:00 p.m. boat ticket are different reservations.

The train’s 30 minutes describes the ride, not the entire visit. Add the required 30-minute early arrival and you already have at least an hour from the organizer’s requested arrival time to the scheduled end of the train ride, before parking or any delay. The boat ride length was not established in the reviewed sources, so don’t build a tight after-tour appointment around a guessed number.

Private-tour detail: The organizer lists Pecos Diamond at $30 per person. It also advertises a separate whole-boat rental offer with its own terms. Those are different booking options, so confirm which one you want on the official boats page.

How Much Are Christmas on the Pecos Tickets?

These are the 2026 standard published rates for Rudolph/Noelle boat tickets and the Pecos Express. The organizer has different age bands, including a no-charge lap-rider category for very young children. Boat rates and train rates.

Organizer-published standard ticket prices
Ticket category Rudolph / Noelle boat Pecos Express train
Adults, ages 13+ $20 $15
Youth, ages 3–12 $15 $10
Active-duty or retired military service member $10 $10
Age 2 and younger, on an adult’s lap Free Free

What would a family of four pay?

Here’s a useful example using the published standard rates: two adults and two children ages 3–12 would pay $70 for Rudolph/Noelle boat tickets or $50 for Pecos Express train tickets. That’s a $20 difference for the same four people.

Those totals are illustrative ticket-price calculations. They don’t include any taxes, booking charges, optional extras or other checkout adjustments, which were not confirmed. A toddler who qualifies for the free lap-rider category changes the calculation again.

The organizer also publishes certain Eddy County, group and private-booking offers. Each has specific conditions. Check the special-rate details instead of assuming a discount applies to every date.

Where Do You Park, and When Should You Arrive?

Use Pecos River Village, 711 Muscatel Avenue, Carlsbad, NM 88220, as your event arrival destination. The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce lists parking on both the east and west sides of the river and tells visitors to follow event signs. Official event directions and parking.

Don’t confuse this with the Chamber’s office at 302 South Canal Street. That address appears in the organizer’s contact information; it’s not the published event arrival address. Holiday lights are lovely. An accidental tour of the wrong parking lot is less festive.

Turn your departure time into a check-in time

The organizer asks guests to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure and check in at the ticket office for boarding passes. A 6:00 p.m. departure therefore means reaching the event by 5:30 p.m.; for 7:30 p.m., aim for 7:00 p.m. These are simple calculations from the published rule. Organizer check-in instructions.

That 30-minute buffer isn’t a guaranteed parking or walking time. Leave additional room for the drive, finding a space and getting to the ticket office, especially on popular nights. The organizer has not confirmed a parking charge or exact distance from each parking area to boarding, so neither is assumed here.

What Should You Know Before Your Visit?

Dress for an outdoor evening

Christmas on the Pecos is weather-dependent. The event organizer recommends warm layers, including jackets and gloves. Being near the river after sunset is a good reason to dress for the conditions rather than for how warm the afternoon felt.

Handle restroom stops before boarding the boats

The organizer states that there are no restrooms aboard the boats. That is useful information to have before your turn to board, particularly with children. The river lights can have your attention; your bladder would prefer not to compete. Official boat information.

Bring your ticket proof and check family rules

You can show printed proof of purchase or the ticket on your phone at the ticket office to collect boarding passes. For boat rides, the organizer supplies life vests and requires them for children age 12 and younger. Its FAQ also says that only service animals are admitted. Event FAQ.

Ask ahead about accessible boarding

The organizer describes both boat and train experiences as accessible. For the Pecos Express, it specifically asks guests who need boarding help or accessible seating to contact the Carlsbad Chamber before arriving, at 575-361-1532. If you have a particular access question about a boat, it’s worth asking the organizer directly before buying. Pecos Express accessibility details.

Know what the cancellation statement covers

The organizer’s FAQ says that when the event itself is cancelled, ticket payments are refunded to the original payment method. It also warns that departures can change or be cancelled. That statement does not establish a general refund or rescheduling policy for a visitor who changes plans.

What Else Can You Do During a Carlsbad Visit?

If you’re visiting for the evening lights, you can plan a separate daytime outing first. Our things to do in Carlsbad, NM guide covers other local activities without turning this event guide into a second attractions list.

Planning to visit the national park during the same trip? Use our guide to how long to allow for Carlsbad Caverns before committing to an evening ticket. The trails have different time requirements, and your Christmas on the Pecos booking has its own check-in clock.
